Natural wood looks with premium strength, stability, and wear resistance
Learn about Laminate
Laminate flooring is now considered a suitable and reliable alternative to hardwood. In fact, many now refer to it as laminate wood flooring! Laminate looks pretty much exactly the same as hardwood, but laminate offers extra wear resistance and stability. As a result, it’s a great option for homeowners who want the natural beauty of hardwood in areas with heavy foot traffic.
Although laminate looks solid, it is actually made from layers that are fused together. The top layer is referred to as the wear layer, and it protects against scratches, scuffs, and any other markings. As a result, laminate does not show wear as easily as hardwood. The wear layer can also be textured for authentic wood feels. The second layer, which is called the decorative layer, provides laminate with its natural appearance. The decorative layer includes a high definition image of hardwood, and because of advances in technology, these images are pretty much indistinguishable from real hardwood. It is therefore no surprise that modern-day laminate floors look almost exactly like hardwood.
The final two layers provide laminate with extra stability and support. The core layer, for example, is made from high-density fiberboard that is saturated in resin. It provides extra support against foot traffic and other impacts. The base layer, which is attached to the core layer, adds some stability against moisture. It prevents the laminate planks from warping under moist and humid conditions. Nonetheless, it is worth noting that laminate is still not the best option for areas with heavy moisture, such as kitchens and bathrooms.
